The occurrence is located within a railroad yard, inside a triangular area of the track. The area is just south of the main town of New Martinsville, south of Fishing Creek and west of the Ohio River by about the same distance (~1000-1500 ft.). The rest of the triangular area to the west is occupied by much Lespedeza cuneata on higher ground and lower area in the far west with willows and Hibiscus moscheutos.;The vegetation is slightly patchy directly around the intermittant pond, but the dominants are very abundant. The vegetation becomes more patchy away from the wet area on higher ground.
